I made these flower pots back in April. When we moved I brought them with me to have a little bit of Fayetteville on display- even if no one here truly appreciates a Hog. I wasn't sure how well they would hold up in the rain, sun, sprinkles and a two year old on watering duty. They have held up surprisingly well.

To make the pots all I did was spray paint them black. Modge podge on either my paper or rhinestones, then I coated the whole pot with a clear gloss.

These can make a great gift when you are in a pinch or are just great to spruce up your porch!

Laundry Room Wall Art

I wanted to keep the laundry really simple, fresh and clean. Also, I wanted my mother-in-law to still be able to do a lot to the space to really make it her own. This project was $7.00, and makes a nice impact on the room without over powering it.

Supplies:

Chipboard Letters(Hobby Lobby .99 on sale)

Scrapbook paper (Bo Bunny)

Modge Podge

Black Paint

Foam Brush

Sticky Tack

First I painted the edges of the letters black and let them dry.

Then I traced the letters onto the paper, cut the paper out and modge podged the paper onto the letter- let dry.

Next I took a fingernail file and sanded all the egdes of the letters and modge podged the letters and let dry.

I took sticky tack and hung them on the wall.

Ta da!

"This is Pat, Preslee's daddy. Although the last five days have been an extreme blur to us and our family, I felt a strong impression last night to write an update myself. First I just wanted to say thank you. We will never be able to express the gratitude that we have for the many people who are praying and rooting for my little Angel. Preslee has been perfect from day one, she was never a sick baby, she laughed, smiled, looked perfect. When she started getting a little bit older Pres and I began to bond a lot more. She is my little cuddle buddy. We have done almost everything together for the last 18 months. This little girl has become the highlight and focus of our lives. I never truly understood happiness or love until she was born. Preslee is an active little girl. When she started to walk, she started to run. She and I were a lot like at this age is what I've been told. I hope that I can some day be half as brave and half as strong as my little girl has been over the past 5 days. She is so so special.
When I accident first happened I wasn't sure what to think, my worst nightmare was coming to life. To be honest, when I think about the possibility of losing my little girl the thing that scares me the most is that I won't be a Father anymore. I don't know what to do besides being a dad. I love every minute of being a father and spending time with Pres. Although the doctors don't give us much hope or positive outlook for the future we still believe. I can honestly say that our faith in God and in his plan has not wavered. She is in His hands right now. He is a God of miracles and we know that with faith all things are possible. A lot of people have asked me if during this process we have asked, "why us?" or "why would God let something like this happen to our family?" We have had more of the thought process of "why not us?" This was an accident that happened and we are trying to deal with this the best we can and that is with patience and the gospel of Jesus Christ. We never realized how many sick children and families are in PCMC. There is a family from Blackfoot that had their little girl drowned last Wednesday. Please pray for the Jensen's and all of the other children here in the hospital. We appreciate your love and support so much.
My wife is amazing. Every time one of us feels a little weak the other(Ashley) lifts me back up. I have never felt so helpless just sitting and watching. My beautiful wife is holding our angel girl right now and it has been pretty amazing to see my wife smile throughout this whole event. We thank you so much for your prayers and compassion. Little Preslee needs our prayers, love and support during this time. She is still critical and not making much progress as of now but we still have faith and believe all things are possible with God's help. THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!! She's already has been "Daddy's little Miracle". Patrick, Preslee's daddy."

Memo Board Refashion

This is the first project from the laundry room redo that I am going to show you. When I was cleaning out the laundry room I found this memo board and decided to dress it up to match the room.

Supplies:

Fabric

Ribbon

Hot Glue

Staple Gun

Step one: Take buttons off the memo board- mine were just glued on.

Step Two: Measure fabric and trim the fabric to fit the board.

Step Three: Staple fabric around board, pulling tight.

Step Four: Measure ribbon lengths and cut.

Step Five: Staple fabric onto the back of the board, stretch across the front of the board and staple on the other side.

Step Six: Staple where the ribbons meet.

Step Seven: Cut out fabric squares slightly larger than the buttons. Uncover buttons.

Step Eight: Place a drop of glue on the front of the button.

Step Nine: Press fabric to button.

Step Ten: Trim fabric.

Step Eleven: Place a drop of hot glue on back of button and press fabric into middle.
Step Twelve: Glue buttons onto front of memo board.

Laundry Room Redo...

Some of you faithful readers may or may not know that we have moved and are living in Utah in my in-laws basement apartment. As a thank you for letting us live here with our rather active borderline crazy 2 yr. old we thought we would redo their laundry room for them while they were out of town for the week. (Last year my sister-in-law and I redid the craft room- I'll post that later) Here are the befores.... stay tuned to see the final result later this week. As you can see the previous house owner bless their heart was in LOVE with wallpaper- she wall papered every surface she could- including the laundry room. Along the way I'll show you some of the projects that are going into this little room.

Glitter Toes

Alright, if you're like me you have a lot of glitter around your craft room- why? because almost everything looks better sparkly- Well brake out that glitter and a diet coke for this tutorial.

Supplies:
Fine Craft Glitter
Clear Nail Polish
Old Toothbrush, paint brush, eyelash brush...
Diet Coke

Step One: Coat toes with clear nail polish- I just do one toe at a time because you don't want the nail polish to dry before the next step. (Place a piece of paper under your foot to catch the glitter- waste not want not- especially with glitter!)
Step Two: Sprinkle glitter onto toe- go ahead go crazy ...

Step Three: Tap of excess glitter by tapping just above the nail.

Step Four: Repeat until whole foot is done. Tap again and shake the excess glitter back into container. Wait. Drink Diet Coke while nails are drying.

Step Five: Take your brush and carefully brush around the nail to remove excess glitter, using nail polish remover if necessary(when doing your 2 year old it will be necessary).
Top Coat and let dry.

Enjoy Sparkly Toes!

Note: After your first shower your toes will look even better as excess glitter is removed from foot.

Also. Glitter toes last FOREVER if you like to change your polish a lot use the professional strength remover or plan on a significant time spent scrubbing.

Glitter toes look at their very best at the pool- so hang out at the pool often...

Pray for Preslee

This is Preslee, she is a friend of ours. Preslee is a fighter- she is fighting for her life at Primary Children's Hospital.

"At around 8:00 Friday night Preslee fell into a canal in Rigby(Idaho). About 2 miles down the canal a farmer who was working in the water saw her and immediately started CPR. His brother was with him and called 911. She was air lifted to EIRMC (Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center) and then flown down to Primary Children's Hospital... No one knows what the outcome of this all will be, but what we all know is that little Preslee is strong and courageous, and so is her family. Please keep them in your prayers."

Mother's Day #2

WARNING! IF YOU ARE MY MOTHER OR MOTHER IN LAW OR CANNOT KEEP A SECRET DO NOT READ!!!

Okay, so moving is taking WAY more time than it should! But here is another quick, easy, fun and CUTE present for Mother's Day! I saw this idea awhile ago and more recently but I cannot remember where I saw it- if you have seen it too- tell me where. (the hands are in red polka dot fabric, with little trees in the corner! The little girl's name is something really cute.)

Anyways, my good friend and I were talking about what to do for Mother's Day and TADA we did these! By the way said friend is a self professed non-crafter and hers turned out SO cute- so go ahead and give this project a try.

Supplies:

8x10 Canvas

Scrapbook Paper

Modge Podge (of course)

Scissors

Cricut (not necessary but makes project easier)

Diet Coke

Pizza

Box of Oreos- to keep the 2yr. olds at bay

Step One: Cut out name. Trace hands of 2 yr old (stuff an Oreo in their mouth- they'll sit still). Cut out hands, and any embellishment you choose to add- I did flowers.

Step Two: Lay paper on canvas obsess about which way is best while sipping on Diet Coke, finally decide to go with way number one and modge podge.

Step Three: Let dry.

Step Four: Check 2 yr old's hands for cookie residue and then hand project to her for a picture. Get project back with an Oreo hand print and wipe off. DONE~

Repeat as many times as necessary including one for yourself since it's so dang cute!

Told you it was easy.

I've got flower boxes on my mind, mostly because I have a great balcony that is practically begging for them. I know exactly how they would look and what flowers I would put in them- if I weren't moving in three weeks.

Mother's Day Idea #1...

Well I'm finally back to blogging thank you to my loyal 10 readers who stuck it out with me. The show went really well and all my orders are almost filled.. yay! Husband is in the middle of his last week of law school finals... double yay! And I have a house to pack for our big move across the country to Utah... But enough about me let's get to the real reason you're here- a craft.

Mother's Day is coming up and if you're like me you're scratching your head trying to think of something new to give to the woman who gave life to you- no pressure right? Well for the next week I will showcase easy, cheap, and meaningful presents that you can give to that sweet lady.

Today's idea is a dvd of your family throughout the past year or an event or whatever. But the tutorial is not about how to make the dvd, it's how to makeover the dvd case.

First find a case. Then pull out the cover of the case and trace on to the paper of your choice (this dvd is actually for an outgoing missionary). Cut out paper.

Yeah, we own Shrek- don't judge.

I inked the edges of mine.

Add something to the front of the case. Since this is for a boy I kept it simple, but you could really go crazy, add a picture, etc.

Slide into case. Done.

Now that great dvd or cd full of pictures has a cute home!

Easter Hair Clip

I finally made some fabric flowers and I loved to make them! Fast, easy, and cheap. I bought an 1/8 of a yard for 38 cents and it's enough to make at least 3 or four and thats being very generous. These are what I like to call a rewarding craft because they are so easy and fast and if you mess up they just look better. I used the tutorial here ( I get a lot of things here(because Heidi Swapp in my opinion is the ultimate- I spent a whole summer learning to write like her- yeah I know) as my paypal account frequently shows).

Easter Egg Genius

Easter egg time is upon us... yeah I just found out early this week Easter is this Sunday... I've been living in my pre-craft fair bubble that consists of hot glue, super glue, diet coke and reruns. Anyways- when I was little my mom would always do eggs with us I remember that one year she had us blow the yokes out so we could make egg people with pipe cleaners and eyes- they were awesome. But blowing the eggs out was NOT awesome- I remember how hard it was- I also remember that my mom had to blow out more than her fair share. Mom- where was Martha Stewart that day. Check this out- use the baby nose sucker you have stuck in the back of your cabinet!

P.S. You don't have to buy an egg coloring kit, use 1 cup water, 1 tsp. vinegar, and food coloring. Save yourself two bucks and buy a diet coke and a peanut butter egg to eat by YOURSELF after you spend all that time cleaning up spilled egg color and cracked eggs.

Remember the St. Patrick's day frame I made using Scrabble tiles? I decided to switch out the fabric and letters for a quick spring project.

Spring Hanging Flowers

Little A and I needed a project this weekend, so we decided to make some flowers to hang from her fan. This was so easy and cheap.

Materials:

5 sheets scrapbook paper

Hot Glue

Scissors

Cut strips of paper. Mine were about 7 inches long by about one inch, although I didn't measure mine I just cut.

Use your hot glue gun and put a little dab of glue on the end of a strip and glue together, hold for a second to let it set.

Cut two circles and glue all "petals" to your circle. Then glue other circle on top.

Hang with fishing line and you're good to go. You could also glue a skewer in the middle and stick these in a flower pot.

If you know me somewhat well or are in my immediate family you know that I LOVE bingo- not just like but adore! You can win prizes and the games are short enough to keep my attention span- but mostly I blame Rick and Stacey for my obsession- you know what you did....

Anyways, I found this GREAT project on Lucky Star Lane (which I LOVE) where she used vintage bingo cards. Ah maz ing! Think I might need to see if I can track some of these down- somehow I don't think my dollar general bingo cards will have the same effect.

From shabby to Fab!

The day we bought the stroller- it never stood a chance....

Isn't the Internet a wondrous place? Lil A has a doll stroller we bought at a yard sale for a buck- best dollar I've even spent- and I've spend a lot throughout my life... Anyways, the seat was ripped when we bought it so I tried to stitch it back together and that worked for a while but that only lasted for so long. I've been thinking about recovering it for a while ... when I found this at Sew Dang Cute!
I don't know if all doll strollers have the same measurements or not- the tag on ours says Toys 'R' Us if that helps.

Materials:

3/4 yd. fabric

1 pack wide bias tape
Thread

Total Cost: $3.75 plus tax

Plus I have enough leftover fabric for two other projects, a luggage tag for someone who knows maybe me and a skirt for lil A.

Old cover, totally destroyed BEFORE I picked it apart.

Lay old cover onto new fabric (all I can say is thank heaven she liked this more than the DORA and Princess fabric). My old cover was one layer of fabric- do these toy makers have kids?! I doubled my fabric so my new cover would be two layers- which should last about three months....

Here are some measurements in case you don't want to pick yours apart.

Middle of the cover.

Top.

Bottom piece- most destroyed piece.

Bottom width.

Cut our new pieces, I just cut around the old pieces- I'm not a perfectionist.

Stitch layers together.

Pin on wide bias tape. I had never used bias tape before- LOVED every minute of that! It's so easy.

Stitch bias tape. To do the corners, I just folded under and kept going, the less seams the better- right?

Measure new loops to hold the seat up. I just kept using my bias tape to keep the project as cheap as possible.

*Tip* I am a novice sewer and I novice before sewing thinker- it would be best to pin these under the bias tape and just stitch them on when you stitch that.* Pin straps on and stitch.

I tried to reinforce it as much as possible without making it look too messy.

Now take the bottom piece that you have already stitched around and pin it to the top piece and stitch.

Then add bias tape to all exposed edges and you guessed it... stitch.

Wahoo. Sigh of relief.

Measure out more bias tape for new buckle straps. *Tip* these can also be sewn on when you do the bias tape on the top section- didn't think that far in advance.*
Feed ends through buckles and stitch then stitch to sides.

Forgot to photo journal this last part. Fold the edge of the bottom over and stitch both sides- my fold was about two inches. Really reinforce this seam- this is where they tend to break.

One happy Baby! and one happy Lil A. She sat right by my side the entire project asking me when it would be done and relaying all progress to "baby".

Last Minute St. Patrick's Day Craft

Gift Box Wall Art

Library Bag

I have been wanting to make one of these for a really long time. I could picture it in my head and for once the real life creation is every bit as cute as the picture in my head. I wanted Lil A to have her own bag to take to the library. I finally got around to it- enjoy the tut!

First, cut out all of the shapes that make up the owl and iron them onto wonder under. ( I really need a new ironing board cover- working on it)

Iron all the pieces of the owl together. I top stitched the wings, eyes and nose before I ironed the owl onto the bag. Then I top stitched around the edges of the owl.
Add eyes to the owl. Mine are just fabric.

Cut out the word books using a cricut or scissors, iron onto bag and stitch.

Look and enjoy.

This was the hard part for me. I knew I wanted a place to keep the library receipt with the due date. So I cut a square of vinyl and zig zagged it on, leaving about a .25 inch at the top unstitched.

Top stitch ribbon to cover up the zigzag. Remember that .25 inch we left unstitched?- tuck you ribbon under for nice finish. For the corners I just folded the ribbon on an angle and kept sewing- this left less ribbon edges to fray or get caught on things. Place receipts in here so you remember when your books are due.... so you don't have humungo fines like me. Take to the library and stuff with books.

Don't be jealous of our library- it won Library of the year for 2005. It is a wondrous place.

Shamrock Frame

So here is yet another St. Patrick's Day decoration idea- and the best part of this idea is that it cost nothing!

Materials:
Frame
Paper
Stamps
Scissors
Shamrock Cut out
Ink Pad

I got my shamrock here.

Cut your paper to size, my frame was a 4x6 so that's what I did.

Center your shamrock and trace.

Stamp your word around the interior of the shamrock over and over and over.....

Wait for your ink to dry and then erase the shamrock. Then if you want stamp the same word in a different color below. Make sure to clean your stamps first- I use the cleaner from Close to my Heart- it works really well- I'm sure others work just as well.

Frame it and enjoy! You could really do this in any shape with any word- like a peace sign with your tween's name, a baseball with your little boy's name (oh cute!) the possibilities are endless!

While I was aimlessly blog surfing tonight I came across a St. Patrick's Day project that stopped me in my tracks- it was simple, it was green, it was perfect- it was MADE's split pea shamrocks.

Go check them out and make about 100. I think I might try some....

Car Seat Cover

Okay, time for another tutorial. Have you seen those really cute car seat blanket/tent/canopy/whatever you want to call them? I know I have, now I don't have a little one in a baby car seat right now but I have plenty of friends with baby showers coming up. So i googled and searched and I think I pretty much every tutorial there was for these things. I took all the best of those tutorials and combined them into one that I liked best. At the end I will tell you what I would change for the next time around.

2 yards coordinating fabric
Sew-on or Iron-on Velcro
Wonder Under
Other coordinating fabrics

Sewing Machine

Okay here we go... I wanted to put an applique on the front of my cover, if you don't skip these steps. I cut out flowers on my cricut... To cut Wonder Under on the cricut place the paper upside down on your mat to cut (this will only work with shapes- letters will be backwards if you do this).

Iron on your flowers, etc. Put your ribbon under the flowers. Then stitch around your flowers and ribbon stems.

Cut your fabric- I cut mine to 36" by 40". I really didn't want the cover to drag on the floor once it was finished. That being said I'm not sure all car seats are the same size so lay your fabric on top of yours and see where you're at size wise. I cut them at the same time so they would line up. Save your scraps- these will be our straps.

If you want your corners rounded, put a bowl down on the edge and cut around.

Then put both right sides together and stitch around the edges, leaving a small opening to use when you turn your fabric right side out. Turn your fabric right side out and then iron all your edges. Iron the space you left open to match your other edges, then top stitch around the entire cover.

Remember your scraps we saved, now its time to use the. Cut four 4" by 7" pieces- these will be your straps. I really need to recover my ironing board the cover is hideous- hilarious but gross.
Lay your pieces right sides together and then stitch around the edges once again leaving a space to turn them right side out. After that's done, I trimmed a little of the corners off to make smoother corners. Then turn them right side out and iron them flat then top stitch.
Then sew on your Velcro.
Then lay out your cover and decide where to put your straps. I fold my blanket in half then in half again to see where the middle of my blanket was then space from there. Then just stitch the straps two or three times on the machine and your all done. Now clip your loose threads and enjoy!

UPDATE: A few answers to some questions: Sewing around the flowers takes more patience than practice- although I have done a lot of applique in the past year. Just take it nice and slow and you will be just fine. The plus about this kind of applique is that if you wash the cover or just use it the flowers will fray a little covering up any mistakes you have made.

My friend I gave the cover to, has a wider car seat handle than the one I have, so you may want to add a couple of inches to the straps.

You can make your cover reversible by making an extra set of straps and repeating the process on the other side.

Lucky Banner Tutorial

All right, onto another St. Patrick's Day goodie. I started this banner weeks ago- Feb 15th to be exact- but I have had the hardest time finishing it and getting a tutorial up- but here it is finally. We have a huge window in our living room that I refuse to buy or make curtains for because we're renting anyways I like to make a banner to hang over this window for holidays birthdays etc to spice it up a little.I started by cutting circles on my handy cricut, I used 5.5"5" and 4.5". Then I inked the edges of the white cardstock with green ink. After that I pulled out my handy foam stamps and stamped "LUCKY", I waited to glue everything together until after I stamped- that way if anything get messed up I am only out one circle instead of three.

Modge Podge them all together.
Now, my favorite part. I traced a shamrock in pencil then stamped the word lucky over and over to form a shamrock.

Then I laid it all out on the floor and pinned my banner to the ribbon so sewing would be easier.
All done!

Birthday Shirt

I needed a quick thank you gift for a nice family that is letting my husband crash on their couch this weekend while he interviews for a program for next year. (If you are reading this nice family because my husband is shamelessly promoting my blog- then thank you for letting him stay with you.) My husband told me they had a daughter and she was 22 mo- no other details- he's a guy after all... I'm impressed he remembered she was 22 months. So I thought I would make her a birthday shirt that's been in my head for a while now. I think my favorite part is the ribbon flame. Now I just have to wait until it's lil A's birthday to make another one- and that birthday can take its own sweet time- she's growing up too fast.

Kid Friendly Door Hanging

I'm back with a new tutorial... and have one in the que for tomorrow. Today's tutorial is a kid friendly door hanging. As I was working on my banner (tomorrow's tut) my 2 yr old "ruined" one of my circles- (can you see the black smudges?) well I hate for anything to go to waste so we decided to turn it into her craft.First I used my handy cricut to cut out the circles for the banner. Then I inked the edges of the white circles with green ink.

I had my machine out already so I quickly stitched around the white circle instead of using a glue stick. I like how paper looks after sewing.

Then we inked lil A's hand and she placed (smacked) it down onto the paper. Then she helped me stamp the word "lucky" above her hand.

Then we of course washed her hand.

Proud crafter... I took a scrap length of ribbon and looped it, then stitched in to the card.

Now lil A has her own decoration for her room.

Corned Beef and Cabbage

Sorry for the lack of posts this week, I have been battling some mysterious illness but I finally kicked it- I hope. :) For today's St. Patrick's Day fix I thought I would share our go to recipe for St. Patrick's Day dinner.

I found this recipe in Taste of Home, but have made some changes to the original recipe- it called for cloves- we are not fans of cloves. AND- the original only called for the cabbage to be cooked for 20 minutes- which left us and our guests waiting for 1.5 hours for the cabbage to cook- EMBARRASSING!

My friend Becca, makes amazing recipe cards for her recipes, so I thought I would try my hand at it for all of you!

St. Patrick's Day Centerpiece etc....

This next St. Patrick's Day craft is very kid friendly- I know for a fact since I did it with a very excited 2 yr this morning. And it's FREE- using just supplies I already had on hand.

We got our quarterly candle shipment yesterday- a gift from my mother in law that I LOVE- every three months new candles arrive on my doorstep packed in Styrofoam that gives me all sorts of ideas. This time around we took the two large cake like pieces out for our base.

Then we painted our bases- I was not patient enough to find my spray paint- we used acrylic and it worked fine.

While that was drying we traced shamrock outlines on the back of our scrapbook paper- just one of each. Once we cut out the first set we flipped them over and traced them to get our backing shamrocks.
Here you see our two sets of shamrocks laid on top of each other.

Then we spray painted some skewers from our junk drawer white.

The cover the shamrock in modge podge and sandwich your skewer between your two shamrocks.

Stick shamrocks in Styrofoam at varying heights, and voila!

I wanted to make little A a St. Patrick's Day tee, but I had a hard time coming up with something to say that wasn't kiss me or some other widely used saying. I came across a hat in a clearance section with this saying on it and knew it was perfect. There's no tutorial for this one, I just cut the letters, ironed them on, then stitched around the edges. Enjoy!

Lucky Frame Tutorial

I ran across this little gem from 320 Sycamore before Valentine's and loved it but never made it. Now that I am full scale St. Patrick's Day ( I even rented Darby O'Gill and the Little People at the library today- is there some kind of support group for people like me?!) I knew this would be a perfect accent!

It's so easy it took less than 5 minutes and it was FREE!

I had an old frame that I love but never had a picture for just laying around, I grabbed a scrap of green fabric, scissors and some scrapbook adhesives.Cut your fabric to fit your frame, I just used the insert to measure.Place your fabric in the frame.Use your adhesives to attach your tiles to the glass- I have a travel scrabble set- that's why my tiles are so small.

Luck of the Irish Tutorial

Okay, I REALLY love St. Patrick's Day which doesn't make a ton of sense, I'm not Irish and I don't drink, my only claim is that I love green! So with that said here is another super quick, cheap and cute tutorial.
Start with a canvas, I used an 8x10, I bought a two pack from Hobby Lobby for $3.99 but they were 30% off this week! Measure the tallest letter from the stamp set you want to use- mine was 2.5". Then start with the line that "irish" we be on, and decide where you want that to be on your canvas and then space all your lines from there. Trace lines very faintly with a pencil (we'll erase it later).

Stamp "irish" first. I used green ink, but you can use any color. I used clear foam stamps- these are my favorite stamps- they are pretty much fool proof.

Finished "irish".

Next, fill all your lines with random letters. (You could also just stamp kiss me i'm..over and over). Make sure you have a pretty good mix of tall and short. Also have some stamps overlap the edge.
Tip- Since there is nothing hard in the middle of your canvas, I slid a closed stamp pad under my canvas so it was easy to stamp- worked like a charm.

Then, erase your pencil lines.

Enjoy! You could also add a green ribbon on the back to hang it on the wall.

Seeing Green

Well now that it's February 16th and Valentines in officially past- time to start thinking green (St. Patty's green) without spending much green. I LOVE St. Patrick's day! To kick start St. Patty's I thought I would make some projects that would add some cute green to our house without spending a lot of money. Today's tutorial is covering a jar candle that I already had.

Measure your jar and cut your paper to fit the flat part of the jar. I then distressed the edges of the paper with a green ink pad.

If you've never distressed paper before, just rub your ink pad along the edges of the paper. Remember it doesn't have to be perfect in fact the less perfect the better. (Don't you wish that was always the case?!)

Then I stamped the word lucky on some white card stock and added some green shamrocks.

Cut our your word strip, and distress the edges in black to set it apart from the green background.

Modge podge your word strip onto your background paper.

Since I'm only using the cover for a month, I just taped it onto the back of the jar.

Viola instant St. Patrick's day cheer.

Rag Letters

Remember those cute rag letters that I blogged about a few days ago? Well I couldn't stop myself from making them. I made an entire alphabet (more on that later since it's a V-day present for little A). I also did her name in pink and green to match her room. Once I finished the letters, I laid them out on the ribbon I wanted to use, then pinned the letters to the ribbon, then stitched away. I think they added a cute touch above her "new" big girl bed.

I had to make a game for a Valentine Party that I am going to this week. I thought I would fill a jar full of candies for the girls to guess the amount and it might as well be darling.

So I dug through my fridge to find a jar that would work. This strawberry jam was almost gone so I scrubbed it out with a bottle scrubber and used fingernail polish remover to get all the sticky residue off (it worked like a charm).

Then I painted the lid pink and stamped a big "u" on the lid. Then I stamped the word LOVE all around the top of the lid.

I then stamped "xoxo" all around the edges of the lid.

I thought the words needed something between them so I used the tip of a mechanical pencil.
Then I dug through my stash of paper to find something to put of the front of the jar.
Next, modge podge your label on both under the label and on top of the label. Use your nail polish remover and a Q-tip to remove the rest of the modge podge from around the edges of your label.

To finish the lid spray the lid with a clear coat finish- everything looks better shiny.
Finish it all off with some matching ribbon and fill with your favorite candies. This would be great to give to your visiting teaching sisters, school teachers, friends, kids, etc.

My First Tutorial...

I came across this the other day and I knew that I had to try it. I had the perfect pair of shoes in mind- gross ugly shoes destined for the salvation army. The great news is that I got them for $5.00 from Limited Too (yeah they make shoes in my size). Any way the fake patent leather and cork never really went together.Lay out enough fabric to cover your shoe. I had a few fabrics I was deciding between but at the end of the day in a couple months I can just change the fabric out.Lay on shoe just to make sure you have enough.

Cut down the middle to just before you reach the shoe. Cover the shoe in modge podge. Put fabric on shoe and pull nice and tight over the shoe.

Cut slits in the fabric that will cover the inside of the shoe, and modge podge the fabric up and over the shoe, pull tight.

If you are doing a sling back like me take your piece of fabric and fold it under and glue down so you have a nice edge. If you are doing a flat or other shoe- take one edge and glue down, then take the other end and fold under and glue on top- for a nice finished edge. Of course I couldn't find my exacto knife and since I was bound and determined to finish, I just used my rotary cutter. Unless your rotary cutter is much sharper than mine I suggest finding an exacto knife or using the blade on your fabric scissors.

Once you have trimmed everything, cover the entire shoe in modge podge.

I am going to take some 3/8 ribbon and cover up my rough edges on the inside, just because I'm not in love with the way it looks.

Headboard Substitute

I thought I would post some pictures of a project I did awhile ago. I took an old cupboard door and sanded it down, then painted the middle with chalkboard paint, finished the edges with a red paint I liked, and then added picture hangers to the back so I could hang it on the wall. I left all of the original hardware on it because I like how it looked, but you could take it off of yours. Ignore my lame attempt at paisley in the corner.

I have been looking for a good place to hang it for a while now but finally decided to hang it right above our bed since we don't have a headboard.

In response to your questions, I didn't make the bedding- I WISH I had, I got in on Overstock.com, for super cheap. I DID, however, cover the pillows you see in the front- they were old, they were ugly- now they are at least presentable. Plus, you have to have like 50 pillows on your bed anyways right?

Scarf Tutorial
